I am Corsican like I am an artist — by birth.
In 1755, Pascal Paoli was elected General of the Corsican nation. That year, he declared Corsica’s independence, chose the iconic black-and-white flag, and began drafting a constitution that would later inspire the American founding fathers when writing the US Constitution.
The foundation of his enlightened vision was built earlier, in Napoli (Naples), where he followed his father into exile in 1739 and absorbed the ideas of education, culture, and governance that shaped his leadership.
While the Corsican flag is black and white, the story of Corsica, an island in the heart of the Mediterranean, is painted in a thousand colors. This painting is my tribute to those roots — both geographic and artistic — blending history, identity, and contemporary art.

“NAPOLI!” uses a palette of deep burnt sienna, echoed in "MOROSAGLIA!", and the vivid greens of "ORREZZA!", symbolizing the foundation years of Paoli’s journey. The Naples yellow that runs through the piece creates a direct connection to "CORTI!", representing how his education in Naples became the anchor of his enlightened vision for Corsica. This artwork completes a story of heritage, exile, and the birth of freedom through color and texture.

"NAPOLI!" is part of my new serie "Corsicana" inspired by my Pop Art roots and the saturated portraits of Warhol's designated icons, from Marilyn to Queen Elizabeth, which led to my own icon, symbol of my
Family roots: the Corsican Flag.
Our Flag is cut in black and white, which would suggest a stark vision of our island and its people. I see it differently. Our history, our idiosyncrasies, our fractures and my journey, and the journey of all the people, who had to leave and look for a better life around the world make that flag an endless succession of layers and colours. I have but captured just a few.
